The Summer Course

Melton College,York is a great place to spend a few weeks in the summer. Older students enjoy exploring a top tourist city and make the most of York’s excellent nightlife. For younger students,York is a safe city, big enough to be interesting, small enough to be friendly.

Key Points

  • 18 + hours of tuition
  • Maximum class size 14
  • Minimum age 14 (11 in August)
  • Start dates every two weeks (Every week in August)
  • Full activity programme
  • Full-day excursion every Saturday
  • Accompanied Airport transfers included for under 18s

For two weeks or for the whole summer, we offer a serious but enjoyable mixture of English, activities, excursions, visits and culture! You will be taught by a small team of enthusiastic teachers, committed to helping you get the most from your time with us.

Our students can enjoy the space which comes with being in a residential part of the City, just outside the lively, crowded shopping area!

Whether relaxing in our garden or conservatories, studying in our classrooms or resource rooms, our Summer Course will offer you a memorable time in York.

The Summer Course offers 25 lessons of 45 minutes per week. This figure does not include the activity programme, guided self-study, excursions, visits or evening events.

Accommodation

We take great care when selecting families and always try to help with special requests. We place great emphasis on welfare. Younger students have to follow the College curfew regulations and we are happy to set earlier times if parents wish.

Younger students on the Summer Course

We take our younger students seriously and we expect our younger students to take the course seriously. Younger students enjoy all the facilities of the College and, of course, the teaching is of the same high standard for all our students!

The low minimum age allows students to enjoy a serious summer course. The course does not suit everyone and some younger students might be more comfortable on an activity course or a children’s course. Students under the age of 18 at the start of their course are automatically on full-board and will get a bus pass.

Accompanied Transfer Service

All courses start on a Sunday. For students under the age of 18 at the start of their course, we include a free transfer service.

Students are met at Manchester and Leeds Airports and escorted to York. The courses end on a Sunday. We take the students back to the airport, help them with check-in and make sure they go through security in time to catch their plane. Older students can opt to join the transfer service for a small additional charge.

Activities

After lessons, students can follow the free cultural programme; talks on literature and British life and culture, some given by guest speakers. For those who want something less serious, we also offer a range of afternoon ‘after-lesson’ activities.

On two evenings each week we arrange activities either in the College or in the City.
