Courses for younger learners

Key Points - Easter and October Young Learners' Courses

  • 18 hours of tuition per week
  • Maximum class size 14
  • For students aged 11 to 18
  • Careful supervision
  • Excellent preparation for school exams
  • Afternoon activity programme every weekday including project work and visits.
  • Accompanied airport transfers included free bus pass

The course offers a balance of grammar, speaking, reading, writing and listening. On the Saturdays there are excursions to the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, The Deep Aquarium in Hull,  Fountains Abbey or Whitby. The afternoon programme gives students the opportunity to practise their English and see something of York! In 2012 we shall be spending afternoons at York Minster, The Castle Museum, The Yorkshire Museum and The National Railway Museum.

All the students will have a guided tour of the City including the famous medieval walls. Some afternoons will be spent in the city centre doing project work. During the course we run a variety of evening events including a visit to the cinema, ten-pin bowling and a farewell quiz. These events are all included in the tuition fees and the host families collect younger students from events which finish late. At the end of the course, students and their parents receive a full report and a certificate of attendance.

Accommodation and Welfare

We take extra care when selecting families and always try to help with special requests. We place great emphasis on welfare. All students have to follow the College curfew regulations and we are happy to set earlier times if parents wish. Students on our junior courses are automatically on full-board and all students receive a bus pass.

Accompanied Transfer Service

The Courses run from Sunday to Sunday. Students are met at Manchester and Leeds Airports and escorted to York. At the end of their course, we take the students back to the airport, help them with check-in and make sure they go through security in time to catch their plane! For students who have difficulty arranging flights, we can make special arrangements to meet early or late flights or flights to other airports at a small additional cost.

Social Programme

The activity programme divides into three sections. The afternoon activities give the students the opportunity to practise their English and see something of York. The programme includes visits to some of the main attractions in the city, including York Minster and The National Railway Museum. Students also use the City to work on projects which they then continue in class. Students also have some supervised free time to explore the city and, of course, visit the shops!

In the late afternoon /early evening we arrange bowling, visits to the cinema and quizzes at the College.

Every Saturday we run a full-day excursion to either The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, Fountains Abbey or Whitby.

All activity programme events are included in the tuition fees. Younger students are collected from evening activities by their homestay families
