Tuition

Melton College welcomes students throughout the year except for two weeks over Christmas. During the period of the Summer Course, adults follow the Adult Summer Course.

Our Adult English Courses are aimed at adults who want to improve their language skills for educational or professional purposes. Our programme includes a balance of grammar, speaking, reading, listening, writing, and, for students whose level is B2-C1, Cambridge exam strategy and technique. Every student is assigned a personal tutor to monitor progress and to offer encouragement and advice. These tutorials are included in the fees but we do not count them as tuition time! Your tutor will help you plan your study and tailor your learning to suit your needs, this will especially focus on your Melton E-learning account. Many of our students go on to take a Cambridge or IELTS exam (Melton College is the only IELTS centre in York) in order to continue their studies at a British university.

Our programme includes a balance of grammar, speaking, reading, listening and writing.

Adult English A: Half-day programme

For students who do not have the time to follow the full day General English Course programme, we offer a 15 hours tuition per week alternative. Minimum age is 18.

For students whose level is B2-C1, the course will also focus on Cambridge B2 First and C1 Advanced exam strategy, technique and preparation using practice materials created by Cambridge examiners.

Adult English B: Full-day programme

Students receive 22.5 hours tuition each week. In addition to the morning tuition, a carefully structured afternoon programme includes extra reading, listening practice, speaking skills (including student-led presentations) and study skills to help you make the most of your course.

For students whose level is B2-C1, the course will also focus on Cambridge B2 First and C1 Advanced exam strategy, technique and preparation using practice materials created by Cambridge examiners.

Like all Melton College courses, the tuition times are teaching time and do not include breaks, tutorials or preparation.

Melton E-learning

All Adult English Course students can use the Melton College Guided e-learning system. This virtual environment helps students plan their studies, contact other students and participate in the College’s social life. Students continue to have access to the system for 3 months after their departure.
