England's finest City Walls

York has some of the finest City Walls in Europe and they provide great views of the City.
The walls surround the medieval city in a c-shape (there was originally a lake to one side of the City) and are almost unchanged since their construction in the 13th Century.

York is home to the largest Railway Museum in the World.
The UK was 'the cradle of the railways': an industry which transformed the way the world moves. From the earliest trains to the world's fastest steam train, from trains built in the UK to a bullet train from Japan, see some of the most remarkable vehicles which ever existed as you explore this one-of-a-kind building.

The guilds of York each had their own hall, these, and some incredible Medieval churches help give a flavour of the City from the Norman period.
Your teacher will guide you round a small selection of our halls and churches.

Cheese has always been a part of English food but many smaller cheeses and cheese makers disappeared in the twentieth century. Thankfully, a resurgence of artisan cheesemaking means that some lovely local cheeses are available again!

This is your chance to find out how to make the delicious, but very simple, Yorkshire Puddings. While they are cooking we will tell you their history, and once done, we will eat them. It's not just food for thought!

The Royal Armouries is home to one of the world's largest collections of arms and armour, but also provides a fascinating insight into some of the wars which have shaped Europe over the last 1000 years.
The museum is in Leeds and a short walk brings us to the shopping area for some free time!

Within the walls, medieval York is a maze of small streets, the most famous being Stonegate, with its iconic view of the Minster and The Shambles, the inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books. York has a fascinating web of even smaller streets and passages, called Snickelways. These provide a fascinating way to explore the City!

The Minster may be the largest and greatest of York's churches, but the city's historic centre hides many smaller gems, from an 11th Century church founded by a Norwegian Earl, to one with a 15th Century stained glass window depicting the end of the world. Join us for this tour through some of the prettiest old buildings in the North of England
