Cheese has always been a part of English food but many smaller cheeses and cheese makers disappeared in the twentieth century. Thankfully, a resurgence or artisan cheesemaking means that some lovely local cheeses are available again!

Harewood puts on a great display for Christmas and this, along with the fabulous gardens makes for a memorable day out.

York's Christmas Market happens from the 17th of November to 23rd of December 2022. The shops, restaurants and attractions are decorated for Christmas and the town has a lovely winter feel to it, not to mention all the festive events.
This year will be the 30th Anniversary of St Nicholas Fair, which has been a regular in the streets of York during the festive period since 1992. The well known alpine chalets line Parliament Street and St Sampson's Square and make it very festive indeed. There are also numerous local traders and artisan products present.

Set in a beautiful garden in the grounds of the ruins of St. Mary's Abbey, The Yorkshire Museum traces the history of our city from Roman times while the natural history section goes back millions of years!
The museum is home to the famous Middleham Jewel and has recently added an exquisite horde of Roman bronzes, including a bust of Marcus Aurelius.

Barley Hall is a reconstructed medieval townhouse in the city of York, England. It was built around 1360 by the monks of Nostell Priory near Wakefield and extended in the 15th century.

One of our top museums famous for its reconstruction of Victorian York.
Set partly in the remains of York Castle and mainly in the remains of York Prison, The Castle Museum is best-known for Kirkgate, a reconstructed Victorian street complete with day and night lighting and shops with staff in period costume. The museum also has temporary exhibitions, local craft exhibits and its own flour mill on the banks of the River Foss.

Harrogate is a town in North Yorkshire known as a fashionable spa resort due to it's local mineral springs. There are restored Moorish-style Turkish baths and a health spa. Knaresborough is a market and spa town near Harrogate and on the river Nidd. It boasts a large picturesque viaduct and stunning views.
