One of our top museums famous for its reconstruction of Victorian York.
Set partly in the remains of York Castle and mainly in the remains of York Prison, The Castle Museum is best-known for Kirkgate, a reconstructed Victorian street, complete with day and night lighting and shops with staff in period costume. The museum also has temporary exhibitions, local craft exhibits and its own flour mill on the banks of the River Foss.

Cheese has always been a part of English food but many smaller cheeses and cheese makers disappeared in the twentieth century. Thankfully, a resurgence or artisan cheesemaking means that some lovely local cheeses are available again!

Yorkshire has some of the most dramatic coastline in England with long sandy beaches, high cliffs and some beautiful coastal towns and villages.
We will visit Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby and also have the chance to visit Goathland (home to Hogsmead station, a must for Harry Potter fans!) and the setting for "Aidensfield" made famous by the series Heartbeat.

The history of film, photography and television

The National Media Museum is in Bradford and is part of the National Science Museum.
Set in a former cinema, the museum traces the history of photography, film and television. We will also visit Salt's Mill, now a shopping outlet, but originally a mill and town built by Titus Salt, famous for his progressive ideas.
