A quick guide
FIRE
The Assembly Point is in the car park . Please read the directions in each room. If the alarm rings, please leave AT ONCE by the exit indicated . There are fire practices, so you learn what to do!
The Students Door and Gate
Please see to the left where the student door and gate can be found.
The Door Code
The student door code is 1265. The College is open from 08.30 - 17.00 on weekdays. The College is not open at the weekend
The College has three floors
There is a ground floor, first floor and basement.
Rooms are described by direction
Rooms on the first floor start with the word High. Rooms in the basement start with the word Low

The basement is organised as shown on the left.

The first floor is organised as shown on the left.

Opening Times: The first ten minutes of breaks, The first 30 minutes of lunch
Go out of the Café into the Garden
The garden is organised as shown on the left.
Enjoy the Garden but, please
Be careful on the terrace when its wet. Dont stand on walls. Dont pick the flowers. Dont climb the trees
Green bins, only for:
Cardboard, cans, paper and plastics. Please do not put food (or anything with food on or in it), glass, batteries or polystyrene cups and trays (e.g. fast food containers) in this bin!
Grey bins, only for:
Other waste, like food and materials that cant be recycled. Always think: If it can be recycled, put it in the green bin.

Please speak only English. Please do not eat or chew in class. Please dont use your phone during lessons. Please respect the furniture and fittings. Please leave rooms tidy!

You must always make sure that, when doing what you want to do, that it is safe and you are allowed!

Safeguarding
Jake is the Welfare and Safeguarding Officer for Melton College. If you are unhappy, worried or sad, talk to him! Andrew and Denise can also help with Safeguarding issues
Your Safety
Passports and National ID Card
You do not need to carry ID with you while in the UK. Leave your passport and National ID Card at home, and do not carry them with you!
Melton College ID Card
This card contains: Your name, your address in York, and the College emergency number. Carry the card at all times in a safe place!

First Aid and Medical
If you need First Aid, go to the East Room. If you need a doctor, we can arrange an appointment for you. If you need a dentist urgently, we can also arrange an appointment
Allergies and Illness
It is very important we know if: You have any allergies. It is very important we know if: You are diabetic, you are asthmatic, you are epileptic, you have any medical condition or are taking medication
Road Safety
In the UK, cars drive on the left, so look Right First! You must not cross the road outside College, use a pedestrian crossing. Be careful to get on the bus on the correct side of the road!
Safety What you can do
Stay in busy streets or areas, Dont go into parks in the evening, Dont walk around in a large group, Dont walk home alone, Dont use the College forecourt as a meeting place, Do tell your host family where you are going, Do look after your belongings
In the evening
If you are under 18 you must be at home at the time given. If not, your host will ring the College and you will be in trouble!By coming to Melton College, you and your parents have agreed to these rules! Please see curfew times on the left. *You must return home for your evening meal unless you are on a College activity!
Accommodation
Living in homestay accommodation
You are a guest, but you are in someone elses home so please: Your host will provide: Breakfast, Evening meal, Packed lunch (or lunch on Sunday). Respect house mealtimes! Please be on time for meals! Learn and respect house safety rules - remember you are not in a hotel!

First Bus York - Download the free First Bus app for up-to-date timetables, Taxis, Bicycles. Be aware of the safety issues. If you are under 18 you must not use bicycles
The Law
You must be 18 years old to: buy or smoke cigarettes, including e-cigarettes; buy or drink alcohol. There are very strict laws about knives.
The end of your course
At the end of your course you will receive an Attendance Certificate & Report. Please make sure we know about your return flight!
Remember, please...
Respect the culture of others. Speak English. Do not eat during lessons. Dont use your phone in lessons. Do not take pictures, video or record during lessons. Treat College property (e.g. chairs) as you would wish your property to be treated. Your host family is not a hotel! You must ask before inviting guests or taking food. If you go out, tell your family where you are going, with whom you are going and when you will be back.
