York Minster is awe-inspiring! The largest medieval Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe with some of the finest medieval stained glass in the world. The current Minster took over 250 years to build.
You will have a guided tour of this amazing building and the chance to explore the foundations museum.
Viking Kingdom!

York was the Capital of Viking Britain and their City was based on the banks of the river. A major excavation in the 1970s uncovered streets, houses and thousands of artifacts, many of which became the basis for the Jorvik Viking Centre.

York is surrounded by some famous Yorkshire breweries from Samuel Smiths in Tadcaster to the Black Sheep Brewery in Masham. Yorkshire has some of the most dramatic coastline in England with long sandy beaches, high cliffs and some beautiful coastal towns and villages.
We will visit Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby and also have the chance to visit Goathland - home to Hogsmead station (a must for Harry Potter fans)! Goathland is also know to fans of "Heartbeat" as the setting for "Aidensfield".

Within the walls, medieval York is a maze of small streets, the most famous being Stonegate, with its iconic view of the Minster and The Shambles, the inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books. York has a fascinating web of even smaller streets and passages, called Snickelways. These provide a fascinating way to explore the City!
Your teacher will guide you around the streets and snickelways and tell you some of the history of our amazing City!

When John Kirk founded the Castle Museum in the old prison buildings he started a trend for reconstructions within museums that continues to the present day. Kirkgate, the reconstructed Victorian street is the heart of this incredible museum but there is much more besides.

There are elements of the Roman City you can see, but you have to look for them! This tour will trace the development of Roman York and we will visit some of the surviving features of the Roman's Northern stronghold.

Fairfax House is a beautifully preserved Georgian Town House with some amazing furniture. The House, now open as a museum, has an interesting history, having been a storeroom for The Castle Museum and a Cinema!

York Minster was built on the site of the Roman Principia. The remains of the Roman building are visible in the Foundations Museum, which also includes a fascinating museum covering the history of York Minster from the first building in 627AD to the present time.

2000+ years of local history

Set in a beautiful garden in the grounds of the ruins of St. Mary's Abbey, The Yorkshire Museum traces the history of our city from Roman times while the natural history section goes back millions of years!
The museum is home to the famous Middleham Jewel and has recently added an exquisite horde of Roman bronzes, including a bust of Marcus Aurelius.

The white horse dominates the view of The North York Moors. This local landmark is, in fact, relatively recent having been created in the 18th century by the local school teacher. A walk above the horse gives amazing views of the vale of York. On the way home we will stop for afternoon tea
