We will go to the Minster and listen to Evensong
This is a traditional Christian choral service and a real York experience. Hear carefully selected music sung by a leading choir, all in the peerless beauty of the Minster. William Byrd and Thomas Tallis are among two of the revered composers whose work you could encounter in this greatest of UK churches

Can you tell your cheddar from your Wensleydale? Cheese has always been a part of English food but many smaller cheeses and cheese makers disappeared in the twentieth century. Thankfully, a resurgence of artisan cheesemaking means that some lovely local cheeses are available again!

Visit a major city, Leeds, and a major museum, the Royal Armouries
Leeds is Yorks larger, much younger cousin it expanded massively over the industrial revolution in the 1800s, and is known today for its Victorian shopping arcades, its covered markets, and its street food. Explore this wonderful city after a trip to the Royal Armouries, a museum containing one of the largest collections of arms and armour in the world. Armour worn by Japanese samurai, King Henry VIII, and an Indian war elephant are just some of the fascinating objects you will see here

We can arrange taxi transfers to any airports but most participants choose Manchester or Leeds. Manchester airport is particularly convenient as it also has a direct train service to York
England's finest city walls

York has some of the finest city walls in Europe and they provide great views of the city.
Built by the Romans, knocked down by the Vikings, rebuilt by mediaeval Englishmen, the history of York's walls is long, yet they still stand. They encircle the town's mediaeval centre, still following the Roman route. Walking them, we will follow in the footsteps of a thousand years' worth of York people

York Minster's size - it is the largest mediaeval Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe - is not its only impressive feature. A day at the seaside

Yorkshire has some of the most dramatic coastline in England with long sandy beaches, high cliffs and some beautiful coastal towns and villages.
The coast's highlights are Robin Hood's Bay, a gorgeous cove known for its beauty, fossils and rockpools. We'll also visit Whitby, a fishing town with literary links - it is the place Dracula landed in England after sailing from Bulgaria. Explore these wonderful places, and try some of the best fish and chips in England while you do!

On Sundays we say goodbye to those going home. We run a transfer service to Leeds and Manchester airport from early morning until the evening.
