Safe Touch Policy

Safe Touch Policy

When we started to take younger students, we realised that we would need to look at areas where they would need more help and support. In some cases this support will be physical:

Things like

  • Holding hands crossing busy roads
  • Comforting a crying child
  • Helping a child get down from a tree!

When we wrote the policy, it was also the chance to look at things for all students, for example

  • Giving hugs when saying goodbye

The policy in in full, in the download area.  Put simply

We will intervene for a child’s safety, whether they like it or not

We will offer to intervene where it may give comfort or support, but will leave the choice to the child.

For example, when saying goodbye to kids staying in the Guest House we are happy to:

  • Wave
  • Shake hands
  • High five
  • Fist bump
  • Hug

But we will wait for the child to make the first move!

As with all our policies, our staff are all familiar with the content and have been tested on it.  If you want to read the policy and then take the test, you are very welcome to do so!
