The Melton College Family Page
Hello, it’s Andrew
Thank you for clicking through to this page!
2024 was an amazing year and, looking back, all of us at the College will remember the year for the increase in families! Be it, after-dinner volleyball, tree climbing, lessons in the park or making chocolate, the plan to lower the minimum age and focus on families was one of our best ever decisions!
Of course, this is thanks to you for your support, parents and kids, for getting behind the idea and helping it to grow. We are already really excited about 2025 and have started to make plans. I have booked my summer holiday as early as possible (12th~19th July) so I can be around for the peak weeks (see Sweet Spot below).
A couple of things to highlight:
Easter
Easter is very late this year (Sunday 20th April). This means that, unusually, we may have a wider mix of nationalities! Easter 25 will include some old favourites – the Chocolate Trail (bit like a Parkrun with regular chocolate eating) and the Easter Egg Hunt. As usual, we will be going to the seaside on Easter Saturday. It may be warm enough to paddle but not to swim!
Summer
The “sweet spot” for families (based on school holidays) seems to be 21st July ~ 25th August.
With my best wishes
Andrew

Keep in touch
I know it is really annoying when businesses send endless emails. We want to keep in touch to tell you about York and Melton College, we want to tell you interesting things – whether you plan to return or not (but we hope you do!). So rather than me contacting you, we have set up some ways to “drop-in and see what is happening
Can I give you an example? We got feedback that our Guest Sitting room was not especially welcoming. So, we added a drinks area, bought some beanbags, chose a new colour scheme, added a big TV and put some storage in for games.
We want to let people know – especially when it was your idea! I was going to write a complicated survey about the College, the Course and the Guest House but I think I will get more interesting ideas if I let you choose what to comment on so, please let me know, what was great, what could be improved etc. andrew@meltoncollege.co.uk
We have a new Melton Family Facebook page here . It is a “hidden” page so no one sees it and the only people who can join are parents of former and future kids on our family programmes.
[Note: the link time expires so please message me if it stops working!]
The College Instagram account is public facing and much more general
Website
We will post in the news section of our website
We will soon convert the “Families in York” group to a news group. If you would like to hear about things via WhatsApp, please stay in the group or re-join here.
Photos
Many of you know I took lots of photos this summer and many of you have already received some via Dropbox.
I have put together a Dropbox Folder with our favourite photos from the year, and we would really like to be able to use these. We already have your response to our photo permission question but if you would like us to avoid using any of the photos in this Dropbox, please let me know
Meet Finn the College Mascot
Our mascot travels! Finn travels with me and “posts” his location from all over! Other members of the herd also travel and send in holiday snaps. For those that don’t feel too old for soft toys, there will be a member of the herd waiting on your pillow and looking forward to travelling home with you. All we ask is that she or he sends on a photo for the Gallery! You can see Finn’s travels here.
