2024 was an incredible year for the Gold Course, and we’re thrilled to see how much this unique programme has grown. Whether you joined us for the first time or returned to the College for a repeat visit, we’re grateful for your part in making 2024 so special. With 2025 just around the corner, we can’t wait to welcome even more of you back to York to experience the best the Gold Course has to offer.
Here are some highlights from 2024:
The Gold Course is thriving
- We saw an almost 70% increase in students compared to the previous year, and many of you came back for a second visit. One student joined us for the third time, and another, who first studied with us as a young man, continued the wonderful tradition of family connections at Melton College by returning to us with his teenage daughter!
- Many of our students are already booked for next year, and we’re so excited to welcome you back in 2025!
A rich diversity of students
- This year, we hosted the usual amazing mix of students from 13 different countries and all walks of life, with a wide variety of professional and personal backgrounds. The fantastic range of life experiences you brought with you, and the fascinating stories and perspectives that you shared, made every lesson dynamic and memorable.
The magic of York, all year round
- While the summer was our busiest period in 2024, with over 20 students joining each week between 28th July and 24th August, the flexibility of the Gold Course allowed students to enjoy York year-round, even outside school holiday peaks.
- The Christmas course remains a favourite. With no accompanying Junior course running, it’s the most “adult” time at the College and a truly magical season to experience York, from its sparkling Christmas markets to its festive atmosphere.

Keep in touch
We love staying connected with our Gold students, and our WhatsApp group has become a lively hub for sharing stories, photos, and adventures. It’s been heartwarming to see past students commenting on and supporting the posts of current students.
We encourage you to keep sharing your experiences in English, whether it’s through travel stories, or even showing off photos of your attempts at the English dishes you learned here. It’s all part of being part of the Melton College family.

We have put together a Dropbox with our favourite photos from the year, and we would really like to be able to use these. We already have your response to our photo permission question but if you would like us to avoid using any of the photos on this Dropbox, please let me know

Meet Finn the College Mascot
Our mascot travels! Finn travels with me and “posts” his location from all over! Other members of the herd also travel and send in holiday snaps. If you decide to take one of our furry friends with you, all we ask is that she or he sends on a photo for the Gallery!
