England's finest City Walls

York has some of the finest City Walls in Europe and they provide great views of the City.
The walls surround the medieval city in a c-shape (there was originally a lake to one side of the City) and are almost unchanged since their construction in the 13th Century.

The Minster may be the largest and greatest of York's churches, but the city's historic centre hides many smaller gems, from an 11th Century church founded by a Norwegian Earl, to one with a 15th Century stained glass window depicting the end of the world. The Royal Armouries is home to one of the world's largest collections of arms and armour, but also provides a fascinating insight into some of the wars which have shaped Europe over the last 1000 years.
The museum is in Leeds and a short walk brings us to the shopping area for some free time!

Find the first city

You can still see elements of the first city, but you have to look for them! This tour will trace the development of Roman York and we will visit some of the surviving features of the Romans' Northern stronghold.

Famous for being the first of its kind, the Jorvik centre is a great introduction to Viking York.
York was the Capital of Viking Britain and their City was based on the banks of the river. A major excavation in the 1970s uncovered streets, houses and thousands of artifacts, many of which became the basis for the much imitated Jorvik Viking Centre.

A medieval town house in the city's historic centre. Imagine what life was like for the family who lived there during the 13th century.
A painstaking reconstruction of the original, the Hall is divided into rooms, each furnished with authentic ornaments and recreating the style of the era.

Somewhere between a scone and a rock bun, Fat Rascals are a Yorkshire treat to be enjoyed with afternoon tea.

Yorkshire has some of the most dramatic coastline in England with long sandy beaches, high cliffs and some beautiful coastal towns and villages.
We will visit Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby and also have the chance to visit Goathland - home to Hogsmead station, a must for Harry Potter fans!

2000+ years of local history

Set in a beautiful garden in the grounds of the ruins of St. Mary's Abbey, The Yorkshire Museum traces the history of our city from Roman times while the natural history section goes back millions of years!
The museum is home to the famous Middleham Jewel and has recently added an exquisite horde of Roman bronzes, including a bust of Marcus Aurelius.

Bolton Abbey is famous as one of the most beautiful places in The Yorkshire Dales National Park. We will visit the Abbey, walk round the estate and enjoy the scenery.
After that we will head to Harrogate, a pretty little spa town for some free time and shopping.
Have a safe journey, and come back to see us some time!
