England's finest City Walls

York has some of the finest City Walls in Europe and they provide great views of the City.
The walls surround the medieval city in a c-shape (there was originally a lake to one side of the City) and are almost unchanged since their construction in the 13th Century.

Awe-inspiring Gothic wonder
The largest medieval Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe with some of the finest medieval stained glass in the world, the current Minster took over 250 years to build.

Cheese has always been a part of English cuisine but many smaller cheeses and cheese makers disappeared in the twentieth century. Thankfully, a resurgence of artisan cheesemaking means that some lovely local cheeses are available again!

Visit a major city, Leeds, and a major museum, the Royal Armouries
Leeds is Yorks larger, much younger cousin it expanded massively over the industrial revolution in the 1800s, and is known today for its Victorian shopping arcades, its covered markets, and its street food. Explore this wonderful city after a trip to the Royal Armouries, a museum containing one of the largest collections of arms and armour in the world. Armour worn by Japanese samurai, King Henry VIII, and an Indian war elephant are just some of the fascinating objects you will see here

We welcome our new participants and say goodbye to those leaving. It's sad to say goodbye but we hope you have had a great time with us and will have many happy memories of your time in York!
We can arrange taxi transfers to any airports but most participants choose Manchester or Leeds. Manchester airport is particularly convenient as it also has a direct train service to York

Yorkshire is perhaps the greatest of the brewing regions in England and home to some famous beers.
York is the ideal place to experience the UK's rich beer culture, being surrounded by famous breweries such as Black Sheep in Masham and Turning Point in Knaresborough. It also contains its own up-and-coming craft brewery in Brew York, which serves over 45 different beers in its tap hall. Taste a range of local beers and ales in a perfect introduction to this part of the English experience
