Easter Course and Easter Family Gold Course Cancelled
Last week, the British Government announced a decision to close the vast majority of schools in England, with effect from Friday. Shortly afterwards, EnglishUK, our professional body made the following statement:
Schools across the UK will close on Friday 20 March 2020 and will remain closed until further notice in order to help slow the spread of Covid-19.
English UK is strongly recommending that all UK English language teaching (ELT) centres should also close at the end of the day on Friday 20 March in line with publicly funded education institutions. No date has been given for the reopening of publicly funded schools. We will monitor this situation closely and will support ELT centres in re-opening and welcoming students from around the world as soon as it is the right time to do so.
This is a public health emergency: we believe it is vital that our sector follows national advice as our priority must always be our duty of care to students, staff and the wider community.
We have informed the Department for International Trade and the Department for Education that this is our advice to all UK ELT centres.
These are unprecedented times. We would like to thank our members, international partners and the wider sector for their calm, considered and public-spirited response throughout this crisis.
It is with great sadness, therefore, that I have to tell you that the Easter Course will not be running. I imagine you are as disappointed as we are, but these are, as EnglishUK says “unprecedented times”. We have gone from the government not closing schools to closing schools in a matter of days.
Moving forward we really want to welcome your students to York and Melton College and would be delighted to see them Summer or on our October Course (identical to the Easter Course) they will be very welcome, and we will transfer their booking with no charge. In fact, if you have already paid, we will transfer their booking from Easter 2020 to Easter 2021 if you wish, without any price increase! If you prefer, we will refund in full.
York will be here in October, in 2021. Melton College will be here. Your clients will be welcome to be here with us!
