Bolton Abbey and Harrogate Excursion
Itinerary
0940 The coach will arrive at Holgate Park and will be ready for loading
0950 You must be on the coach, ready to depart
1115 Depending on the traffic, we will arrive at Bolton Abbey
1345 The coach will be ready for you
1400 You must be on the coach, ready to depart
1430 We will arrive in Harrogate
1700 The coach will be ready for you
1715 You must be on the coach, ready to depart
1800 Depending on the traffic, we will arrive back at Holgate Park
Departure from Holgate Park
All excursions leave from Holgate Park. This is 3 mins walk/300m from Melton College.
Each time you get on the coach, you will need to tick your name on a list:

Bolton Abbey
Our first stop is Bolton Abbey.
We will be going on a walk round the estate, We will start in the Abbey Car Park, where with will have a brief stop at the toilets. We will then walk to the Cavendish Pavilion, where we will have a 30 min break. There is a Café, a shop and toilets. We will then walk back, on the other side of the river to the Abbey. During our stop at the Pavilion you must not cross the river or continue along the footpath.
Back at the Abbey you will be free to explore. If you decide to cross the Stepping Stones, please remember:
- They are uneven and often slippery
- The water is deep and Cold
Harrogate
Harrogate is our second and last stop. The coach will leave us at the coach drop-off point at the start of the visit and collect us at the end. The drop-off/pick up point is St. Mary’s Walk, in the Montpellier Quarter.

Safety information for the excursion

Unsupervised Free Time (students on the junior course)
You must be with al least two other students at all times. If not, you will have to stay with a member of the College Team. If you are on the Junior Course, and your parents have not given permission for Unsupervised Free Time, you will have to stay with of the College Team

Getting on and getting off the coach
It is not always possible for the coach to stop in a car park.
You may have to leave the coach on the street. Be VERY careful
Do not stand together and block the pavement.
This can be dangerous for you and for people walking on the street.
Waiting for the coach
Wait for the teacher to tell you that it is safe before you try to get onto the coach
Road Safety
Please remember to be careful when crossing roads
Remember: Look Right ~ Look Left ~ Look Right Again
If possible, use pedestrian crossings, bridges or underpasses
Coach Travel
Remember: We give the times the coach leaves. You should be on the coach, sitting-down and ready to depart about 5 minutes earlier!
Please remain seated when the coach is moving
Please wear the lap-strap provided
If you suffer from motion sickness sit near the front
Sorry, the coach will not “drop-off” at any point on the return journey
Weather
Remember, the weather in Britain changes very quickly!
Please use sun-block if the sun is shining
Please bring a waterproof coat
Water
Please be careful near water. It may be cold and deep!
Remember, rivers may have strong currents
Theft
Thieves like crowded areas (like the centre of cities and tourist attractions). Please look after your belongings
