Popcorn and Oreo
Our names are Popcorn and Oreo, and we live at Melton Guest House as the resident Guinea Pigs!
We moved into the Guest House in May 2026 to be part of the Melton Guest House Team.
Part of our job is to make all the kids (and grown ups) feel welcome, and we take our job very seriously, we run around and do lots of popcorns (hops) and squeaks to show how happy we are to see you!
FAQ:
What is your favourite food?
Our favourite food are veggies!! We like to eat little gem lettuce and cucumber the most, but we have tried lots of different ones since we moved to Melton Guest House. Hay is another food we like and it’s a big part of our diet (almost 90%!), we also get kibble and the occasional treat such as pea flakes or fruit. However, please don’t feed us unless you have permission from the Principal Andrew, or the Academic Manager Lace as they make sure that all the food we eat is safe for us.
Where do you live?
We live in the sitting room in Melton Guest House, so anyone can come visit us anytime during their stay.
Do you bite?
We do not bite, we are very gentle if we take food from someone’s hand.
Can we pick you up?
We love a cuddle, but please don’t pick us up without permission from the Principal Andrew, or the Academic Manager Lace, it can really scare us if people try to grab us out of the blue!
Are you boys or girls?
We are both boys. Twin brothers from the same litter!
Why do you squeak?
We squeak when we’re happy, when we’re excited to see you, or when we know we’re about to get our food. The squeaking sound we make is the way we communicate with everyone and it’s often called ‘wheeking’ as it’s a special sound only guinea pigs can make.
How old are you?
We are almost 2 months old currently.
Where do guinea pigs come from?
Guinea pigs originally come from South America, mostly Peru, Colombia, and Chile, but we were born in the UK.
How big will you grow?
We will grow to be 8 to 12 inches long and between 1.5 to 3 pounds in weight when we’re fully grown.
What time do you go to bed?
We go to bed when everyone else does, sleep is good for us as it helps us grow.
Do you sleep a lot?
We take lots of little naps during the day, these last around 5-10 minuets and then we’re up and exploring again! (if you’re really quiet when you visit the Guest House sitting room you might see us sleeping).
Do you speak any languages?
We are fluent in Guinea Pig, but are still learning our English. If you practice the English you learn in class with us, we’d love to learn with you!
